Tailoring

A master resume is the secret to faster, more consistent applications.

Trying to maintain one resume per role quickly turns into a mess of conflicting files. A master resume keeps everything in one place so you can tailor from a clean source.

Start with one complete source

Your master resume should include every role, project, skill, certification, and achievement you might want to mention. It can be longer than one page because it is never sent out directly.

Tailor by subtraction, not addition

For each application, remove what is less relevant and reorder what remains. This is faster and safer than inventing new content under pressure.

  • Keep one source file up to date
  • Create a copy for each role
  • Delete and reorder rather than rewrite

Improve the master over time

Each application teaches you which bullets recruiters ask about. Feed those insights back into the master so your next tailored version starts from a stronger base.
