Job Search Strategy

Your LinkedIn headline and resume should tell the same story.

Recruiters often check your LinkedIn right after reading your resume. If the two documents disagree, it creates confusion and weakens your credibility.

Use the same professional headline

Your resume headline and LinkedIn headline should match closely. If your resume says 'Senior Product Manager', your LinkedIn should not say 'Generalist'.

Mirror your top skills

The skills you emphasize on your resume should appear in your LinkedIn About section and featured skills. This reinforces your positioning.

  • Match your current title across both
  • Use the same keywords for your target role
  • Keep dates and employers consistent

Update both at the same time

Every time you tailor your resume for a new target, review your LinkedIn. They do not need to be identical, but they should not contradict each other.
